“In a play about speech and the power it holds, sound plays a key role which designer Robin Colyer masterfully crafts. From loud heartbeats and shallow breathes to distant crowd roars, we feel Bertie's raw anxiety and the gravity his position holds from the outside. Even radio feed glitching like Bertie's stammer avoids feeling heavy-handed.”

The King's Speech – Watermill Theatre, 2024

From my earliest memories, music has been been at the centre of my life, and I was fortunate to grow up in a very musical household, with musician parents and the steady flow of my father's violin pupils. Seeing instruments in pieces at my luthier uncle's workshop, and examining his reel-to-reel tape deck and collection of microphones had a big impact in my teenage years.

These days, I work as sound designer, musical director and composer for theatre. I also make live recordings, teach as a visiting specialist in schools, and freelance as a musician and workshop leader.
